I've been bad about updating this. I'm sorry for that.

So. We had an insurance meeting today, and I met with the insurance people after it. It did not go as hoped.

In effect, there is no possible way to work a transition of my existing precertification for the surgery to the new insurance plan. There is further no way to begin the precertification process now. I will have to wait until July 1, and then have my Doctor send all of the materials and justifications to Cigna (the new insurance people) that day. And then cross my fingers and hope.

I asked who I could call on July 2, to verify receipt of materials. I was told to see my Doctor.

I asked who I could call during the process, to facilitate and advocate. I was told I could not. See my Doctor. He would launch any appeal that he felt was justified.

I asked what I could do between now and then. I was told 'nothing.'

So, I called Dartmouth Hitchcock, to see if they'd move me up in the queue. They can't. But they say they're very familiar with working with Cigna, and they think they'll be able to work through the process without too much trouble given the material I've already submitted. We'll see. We'll see.

Perhaps it's time to just start drinking scotch.
